The station quotes state Senate majority leader Randy Richardville, who revealed that the celebrated Hollywood filmmaker is negotiating with Governor Rick Snyder's administration to base the production in Michigan.

“You could be hearing something very, very exciting over the next couple of weeks, " Richardville says in the report.

The senator added that the administration doesn't want to repeat what happened with "Iron Man 3, " which headed elsewhere after Michigan lost a tax-rebate bidding war with North carolina.

Richardville didn't divulge any more details, so it's not certain whether Spielberg would be a director or producer on the film. He was a credited producer for "Real Steel" and "Transformers: Dark of the Moon, " both of which filmed in the Detroit area ("Transformers" shot partially in Chicago, as well).

According to the Internet Movie Database, Spielberg has one directorial effort in pre-production, a sci-fi film called "Robopocalypse. " His upcoming production credits include "When Worlds Collide" and "Jurassic Park IV, " the latter being more rumor than confirmed project.

The filmmaker is currently shooting Abraham Lincoln biopic "Lincoln" in Virginia with star Daniel Day-Lewis.

In 2011, because of Snyder's capping of the film-production tax incentive, Michigan has been passed over by several big movies, including "The Avengers" and Christopher Nolan's third Batman film.

Notably, "Oz: The great and Powerful, " from Detroit-born director Sam Raimi, is currently under production at Pontiac's Raleigh Studios, but was approved prior to the cap.
